Stovetop method: In a large saucepan, combine everything except the brandy. Bring to a bare simmer, reduce heat to low and cook for 20 minutes. Take off the heat, add the brandy and serve.
Slow Cooker method: Combine everything except the brandy in a crockpot and stir. Cover and cook on high for 30 minutes. Turn heat to low and cook for 1 hour. Stir in the brandy and turn the slow cooker onto the warm setting.
