Is it a sugar cookie? Is it a butter cookie? Who cares! These Weird Cheesecake Cookies may confuse, but they taste amazing and are very simple to make. And they actually taste like cheesecake!

I know Weird Cheesecake Cookies is a strange post title. But after a quick Google search of cheesecake cookies, I realized this recipe is very different than all the other ones out there.
Also, it’s just a weird cookie: it’s not quite a sugar cookie or a butter cookie or a shortbread cookie but it has similarities between all of them. They’re also pretty thin. The recipe comes from my Nana but I have no clue where she got it.
They have a slight tang to them, are buttery, thin, and yet fairly rich. It’s such a deceiving and confusing cookie. Do any of you have any family cookie recipes like that? Where you go “huh, I wonder who invented this?”
All my recipes like that (remember the Lemon Chess Pie?) tend to come from the Texan side of my family so I sometimes wonder if there’s a magical dessert fountain of knowledge over there, somewhere in the South.
Tips
I know I said these are easy, and they are. But for some reason, they can sometimes be a little finicky. Add a little more flour if the dough is too sticky and can’t be rolled into balls easily. Lining the baking sheets with parchment paper also helps you get more consistent results.

Call Me Juror #4
Last week was a week of firsts: being a juror, having to follow someone else’s schedule, and going out in the city to have some fun.
I think my body handled it all pretty well. It did start misbehaving slightly because of all the caffeinated beverages I had to drink in order to pay attention to the trial. Eating out for lunch three days in a row wasn’t great for me either.
Working from home is the best when you have an autoimmune disease. It allows you to listen to your body while still getting what you need to do done.
This experience has given me both some confidence and also some worries about how to best manage myself whenever I enter back into the workforce.
I think I will definitely have to plan very well in order for everything to work properly. I spent the weekend recovering and trying my best to behave and reset my system.
I’m intrigued by these weird cookies!! They sound delicious.
Haha, Yes! I totally have a weird cookie recipe that I could not come up with a name for. I posted it last year, and I feel like it doesn’t get much attention because of the name. I am so intrigued by these weird cookies, though, I need to try them!
I’ll have to check it out! And yeah, I was worried about what to call the cookie and felt like I had to add something else to “cheesecake cookie” because all the search results were totally different cookies. I’m thinking I maybe should of just stuck with cheesecake cookie though.
WOA- That sure is a thin cookie! But it looks just so good! And – it only requires 4 ingredients! I so so need to give this a go – I’ve never seen anything like it before! 🙂
Thank you Shashi! And I wish I could figure out the origin of the recipe! Because I haven’t come across anything like it either.
This is so fascinating! Cream cheese and just 4 ingredients! I am used to a lot of these ‘thin’ cookies – in India, we call them biscuits. And I just LOVE them to bits. I cannot wait to give this recipe a whirl!
Thanks Tina! I love biscuit type cookies too! I’m still not sure how to classify this cookie though. But who cares? It’s yummy!
I love cookies and I love anything cheese. So cool that they are so thin. Can’t wait to try. Thanks
Me too! Thanks Veena!
oh these are too sweet! and not weird one bit, I would say rather DIVINE!! Would definitely make them this year!
Haha! Thanks Mahy!
Love the black and white photo. These cookies sound like I would really enjoy them. Great post title too 🙂
Thanks Jill! I was unsure if I should put it in, but it really demonstrated how thin they are.
Oh YUM! I’m actually not a huge cookie fan, but I think I’m going to try these, because I LOVE cheesecake!
And I’ve only had to do jury duty once, and they never ended up calling me for a trial. I just remember the chairs being super hard and uncomfy during orientation lol
I readily admit they’re kind of weird tasting, but I think that’s why so many people end up liking them, so tell me what you think if you make them! And I’ve been summoned so many times since I turned 18. I had a brief 3 year break but I figured I’d have to serve soon. And the chairs are ALWAYS uncomfy. IT’s to keep you awake.
