This Rosemary & Mint Lemonade Mocktail has a resinous and pine taste that is very gin-like, making it a great gin mocktail perfect for the DIY Gin Bar. It also feels pretty great on a sore throat and I made this on repeat when my allergies were bad.

Mocktails

I’m sure if you’re anywhere between 25 and 35, many of your friends or family members are trying to get pregnant, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding. And anytime there’s a party, they are usually drinking something boring and store-bought or jealously giving some serious side-eye glares.

Outside of pregnancy though, there are plenty of people who, for either religious or health reasons, choose not to partake. I myself go through periods where consuming alcohol would be detrimental to my health.

Whatever the reason, it always feels nice to be included, and not as an after-thought. This Rosemary & Mint Lemonade Mocktail has just as much thought, effort, and recipe development as a cocktail and you can taste it.

Mocktail Tips

The biggest piece advice for making a good mocktail is to treat it like you’re making a cocktail. This basically means to give it the same attention you would a cocktail.

  • Measure: I think accurate measuring is even more important for mocktails. With cocktails, there is always the personal preference for adding more or less alcohol but a mocktail’s flavor profile is easier to mess up without the alcohol.
  • Shake, stir, pour, and garnish: use the same equipment and garnishes you would use for a cocktail
  • Pay attention to aroma and temperature
  • Balance flavor profiles (sweet, sour, bitter, umami, salty, astringent, etc.)

Whatever the reason, it always feels nice to be included, and not as an after-thought. This Rosemary & Mint Lemonade Mocktail has just as much thought, effort, and recipe development as a cocktail and you can taste it.

Ingredients

  • 5 mint leaves
  • 1/2 a rosemary sprig
  • 1/2 inch thick lemon slice
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon Zest Sugar with Cardamom*
  • 1 ounce lemon juice
  • 1 ounce Orange Shrub with Cardamom and Thyme*
  • Club soda to top or to taste I used Fever-Tree Club Soda

Instructions

  1. Place some ice in a rocks glass or similar sized glass.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, muddle the mint leaves, rosemary sprig, lemon slice, and sugar together until the mint is very aromatic and slightly bruised looking and the sugar is mostly dissolved.
  3. Add the lemon juice and shrub and top with ice.
  4. Shake well, until the shaker is very cold and is sweating.
  5. Strain into the prepared glass and top with soda water. You can garnish with a lemon wedge or slice, mint leaves, rosemary, and edible flowers if desired.

Excellent mix of flavors and incredible attention to detail in execution. Wife can’t have alcohol right now due to some meds, made this mocktail. The vinegar went a long way in adding that bite, and we finally had an outlet for some yuzu juice that we’d been given as a present.

There was nothing lacking in this beverage, and everyone in the house wanted another one, even though we’re all over 21.

Excited to try your cucumber-dill one! Uncommon botanicals are my jam.
